1. About these terms

PsstPsst is an open-source project provided by PsstPsst Labs LLC. These terms are between you and PsstPsst Labs LLC, which provides PsstPsst and operates this website, blossom.jumble.social, and the psstpsst.chat username service, referred to below as “we,” “us,” or “our.” Contact: hi@psstpsst.chat.

These terms govern your use of the PsstPsst applications, this website, and services we operate. By using them, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, stop using the services. The software's open-source license separately governs rights to use, copy, modify, and distribute its code.

PsstPsst is a free, decentralized messenger. Nostr identities and messages do not depend on a central PsstPsst account provider. The Privacy Policy explains how information is handled.

2. Who may use PsstPsst

To use the official PsstPsst app and our hosted services, you must be at least 13 years old and meet any higher minimum age required by applicable law. If you are a minor where you live, you must obtain a parent or legal guardian's consent where the law requires it. These service eligibility rules do not restrict rights independently granted by the software's MIT License.

You must be legally permitted to use the app and its connected services where you live. If you use PsstPsst on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you have authority to accept these terms on its behalf.

3. Your identity and keys

Your cryptographic keys control your identity. You are responsible for securing your devices, private keys, remote-signer permissions, wallet connections, and backups, and for the actions you authorize through them.

We cannot reset or recover a lost private key, reverse an unauthorized signature, or restore encrypted history without the necessary keys and data. Protect identity keys and messaging keys as well as any chat-history exports. A display name or Nostr username alone does not prove who someone is.

A psstpsst.chat username is an optional name-to-public-key registration. It does not grant ownership of the domain, an email address, or a permanent right to a name. Do not register names to impersonate others, infringe their rights, or facilitate abuse. We may restrict registrations or remove names on services we control to address violations, security issues, or legal obligations.

4. Acceptable use

You are responsible for your conduct and the content you send or publish. Do not use PsstPsst or services we operate to:

  • Break applicable law or infringe another person's privacy, intellectual-property, or other rights.
  • Exploit or sexually abuse children, share child sexual abuse material, or facilitate human trafficking.
  • Threaten violence, stalk, harass, defraud, impersonate, or share intimate material without consent.
  • Distribute malware, steal credentials, send unsolicited bulk messages, or gain unauthorized access to systems.
  • Disrupt infrastructure, evade reasonable abuse-prevention measures, or interfere with other users' access.

You can reject message requests and block unwanted contacts in the app. Report concerns about services we operate using the contact details below. Our ability to act is limited to those services; we do not control the entire Nostr network or read end-to-end encrypted conversations to monitor them.

5. Your content and privacy

You retain ownership of your content. You must have the rights and permissions needed to share it. By sending or uploading content, you authorize the processing, transmission, storage, and delivery necessary to carry out your request. This does not transfer ownership to us.

Recipients can save, copy, or forward messages and attachments. Public profiles, usernames, profile images, and custom emoji may be accessible to anyone. Encryption does not hide all network metadata or protect information on a compromised device.

Nostr messages, contact lists, and some settings are stored both locally and on relays according to your configuration and the app's routing. Private messages and private lists are encrypted, while some published settings are public, as explained in the Privacy Policy.

Deleting a local message or account does not delete relay-stored messages, contact lists, or synchronized settings, or guarantee deletion from another device, media host, backup, or public index. Share only information you are comfortable entrusting to its recipients and the services involved.

6. Networks and other providers

PsstPsst connects to Nostr relays, Blossom media servers, username providers, remote signers, software-distribution platforms, and other services. Their own terms and policies may apply. They may impose fees, limits, retention rules, or access restrictions, and may change or stop operating.

We operate the blossom.jumble.social media service and psstpsst.chat username service. We do not operate the app's default Nostr relays. The app includes default services and discovery connections, and attachment uploads may fall back to our media service if configured servers fail. Nearby attachments may use internet-based media hosting as well as Bluetooth. See the Privacy Policy for details.

We do not guarantee another provider's availability, security, content, or conduct. You are responsible for choosing providers you trust and for any network, data, storage, or provider charges you incur.

7. Lightning wallets

Wallet connections are optional and non-custodial. PsstPsst provides an interface to wallets you connect; we do not hold your funds or operate your connected wallet. Your wallet provider's terms and permissions govern its services.

Review the recipient, invoice, amount, and fees before authorizing a payment. Payments may be irreversible, and we cannot cancel, refund, recover, or guarantee them. You are responsible for protecting wallet connection secrets and revoking permissions with your provider when necessary. Nothing in the app is financial, investment, or tax advice.

8. Open-source license

PsstPsst is distributed under the MIT License. The license included with the relevant source-code release governs your rights to use, copy, modify, and distribute that software. Third-party components remain subject to their respective licenses.

These terms do not revoke or narrow rights granted by the applicable open-source licenses. They do not grant permission to imply that a modified app or other product is officially endorsed by PsstPsst.

9. Availability and ending use

Features vary by platform, app version, network conditions, and operating-system restrictions. Messages and notifications may be delayed, lost, or unavailable. Bluetooth depends on range, permissions, and compatible devices. PsstPsst is not an emergency communications service and does not guarantee emergency delivery.

We may update, change, or discontinue features and services we operate. Where reasonably practicable, we will give notice of significant service discontinuations. We may restrict access to our hosted services for violations of these terms, security reasons, or legal requirements. Such action does not revoke your Nostr identity or remove independently held network data.

Our media service currently has no fixed file-expiry period, but does not guarantee permanent storage. We may introduce periodic cleanup of older files; no age threshold or schedule has been set. We will publish the criteria in the Privacy Policy before scheduled cleanup begins. Keep your own copies of files you wish to retain.

You may stop using PsstPsst at any time. Remove local accounts through Settings → Account → Remove account, manage backups separately, and revoke wallet or signer permissions with their providers. Username registration removal is a separate request. See Retention and deletion for the limits of local removal.

10. Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, PsstPsst and services we operate are provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, uninterrupted availability, or error-free operation. We do not guarantee complete anonymity, absolute security, message delivery, or data recovery.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, loss of access to keys or accounts, or losses caused by independent providers, arising from your use of the app or our services.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable. Mandatory consumer protections and other non-waivable rights remain in effect.

11. Disputes and legal rights

These terms do not designate a particular country's law or an exclusive court. Applicable law and jurisdiction are determined by the legal rules that apply to the dispute, including any mandatory consumer protections.

Please contact us about a dispute so we can try to resolve it. This does not prevent you from seeking any remedy or bringing a claim available under applicable law. Nothing in these terms takes away mandatory protections or court access that apply where you live.

If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. A failure to enforce a provision on one occasion does not waive the right to enforce it later.

12. Changes and contact

We may revise these terms as the app and services evolve. We will post the updated version at this URL and change the date above. Material changes will receive additional notice where required. Changes apply prospectively; any acceptance required by law will be obtained. If you do not accept revised terms, stop using the affected services.

For questions about these terms, reports of abuse, or concerns about services we operate, contact PsstPsst Labs LLC at hi@psstpsst.chat.
